Abstract

The basis of the shilo-carotid syndrome is the pathological effect of the subulate process of the temporal bone on the carotid arteries. The extent of this impact depends on the length and degree of curvature of the process, as well as from the structure of the carotid artery bifurcation. Carotid dissection as a result of damage to the artery by the styloid process is represented by single publications and remains a little-studied pathology due to the ignorance of doctors about the possibility of such etiology of this disease. This inevitably leads to incomplete examination of patients. The article presents a unique case of spontaneous restoration of physiological blood flow during dissection of the internal carotid artery injured by the subulate process during manual therapy. The paper reflects the features of ultrasound diagnosis, angiography and computed tomography, which in combination with clinical thinking help to establish the true cause of the pathology.
