Abstract

Objective. To analyze the physiological reserve (PR) in elderly patients (≥ 60 years old) in the mid-long term (6–12 months after operation) after correction of valvular heart disease (VHD) in conditions of artificial circulation.

Material and methods. 85 patients ≥ 60 years old (mean age 63.1 ± 5.0 years) 6–12 months after correction of the VHD, the PR was assessed. Combined operations (correction VHD + CABG) were performed in 25.8% of patients.

Results. We noted a significant improvement in FS according to NYHA: 83.5% of patients are in FS II according to NYHA (in FS III – 16.5% of patients). According to EFI: 77.6% of patients are safe, the rest of the patients (22.4%) are from vulnerable to moderately painful. There was a significant improvement in the quality of life (QOL) of elderly patients in terms of physical components of health.

Conclusion. Analysis of the PR of patients in the mid-long term after correction of the VHD showed that the majority of elderly patients are in FS II according to NYHA. According to EFI, most patients are intact. The QOL of patients in terms of physical components of health is at a fairly high level (FF – 56.4 ± 2.5, RFF – 55.7 ± 3.9).
