Abstract

Abdominal complications and acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery (postoperative complications – PC) have low morbidity, but high mortality. Diagnosis of PC remains challenging due to nonspecific symptoms that usually lead to a delay in the diagnosis and further treatment, as well as significantly worsens the prognosis. Therefore it is particularly important to search for early markers of PC using non-invasive methods such as ultrasound. The present review highlights the current state of the etiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of the most common PC with a focus on ultrasound – its diagnostic performance, place in clinical practice and perspectives for its use.
