Abstract

Pulse wave Tissue Doppler echocardiography estimates myocardial systolic and diastolic velocities and provides quantitative information on segmental function of the left ventricle. In this study we evaluated diagnostic power of tissue Doppler echocardiography in determination of left ventricular longitudinal systolic function based on the velocity of fibrous ring of mitral valve. Study group included 40 male patients with documented coronary artery disease (CAD) and 20 healthy volunteers with no sighs of myocardial ischemia by non-invasive tests and intact coronary arteries at angiography. In conclusion, longitudinal systolic function in healthy subjects and single-vessel disease patients and decreased coronary perfusion does not change significantly after exercise stress-testing with treadmill regardless of heart rate increase whereas in patients with multi-vessel CAD there was a marked ejection fraction and development of left ventricular local dyssynergy.
