Abstract

Material and methods. The study included 12 patients including 4 men (33.3%) and 8 women (66.7%) after aortic valve replacement with or without coronary artery bypass grafting. The mean age of patients was 82,4±1,9. The average EuroSCORE rate for the group was 9,07 ± 2,59. To study the quality of life we used two kinds of questionnaires: Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire. The survey was carried out of patients before and after surgery via 6, 12, 18, 24 months.

Results. Hospital mortality was not observed. Our study showed significant improvement of the main indicators of the QOL and functional status of patients. The study revealed positive dynamics of functional class (FC) of the group. In most patients (83.3%) after surgery was determined FC I–II (1,8 ± 0,75 for FC NYHA), whereas prior to operation it was 3,25 ± 0,7 an average for the group. According to the results of the survey for the whole period of follow-up we obtained good results in the evaluation of all spheres of life of patients, compared with the original data.

Conclusions. The study showed the positive experience of the surgical treatment of critical aortic stenosis in patients over the 80 years. The study of QOL in elderly patients after aortic valve replacement under extracorporeal circulation is a perspective direction of modern medicine and requires further development.
