Abstract

Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) or postthrombophlebitic syndrome is one of the most common causes of chronic venous insufficiency that may occur as a long-term complication of deep vein thrombosis. Disorders of the venous outflow during PTS are caused by the main vein occlusion and retrograde venous flow due to the destruction of the valve apparatus. The chronic venous insufficiency resulting from lower limbs PTS is distinguished by the heavy, progressive course, and appears to be the serious medical and socio-economic problem, which is associated with a high level disability of patients. The review presents the current provisions concerning epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, diagnostics, ways of correction and therapeutic rehabilitation in PTS.
