Abstract

Prothrombin complex concentrates have been used in clinical medicine for nearly sixty years. Created for the treatment of hemophilia B, in the last one and a half to two decades, they are increasingly used for the treatment of intra- and postop- erative bleeding in various fields of surgery. Including a cardiac surgery. The problem of bleeding is particularly relevant in pediatric cardiac surgery, where the typical factors that increase the likelihood of blood loss is superimposed on the imma- turity of the haemostatic system in infants, coagulopathy of cyanotic congenital heart disease and dilutional coagulopathy in carrying out artificial blood circulation in newborns and children of early age. The present review attempts to consider the current state of the problem of the use of prothrombin complex concentrates for the treatment of intra- and postoper- ative bleeding in various categories of cardiac patients.
