Abstract

To study the influence of psychological features on intolerance to physical activity there has been a 6-minute walk test performed in 276 patients with chronic heart failure. During this 6-minute trial the patients overpassed 308±8 m. With the increase of chronic heart failure severity, also in women and elderly patients, the results of a 6-minute walk test decreased. Well subjective tolerance to this exercise trial was ascribed to higher standard of life. Pronounced personal anxiety, depression and prevalence of disadaptive behaviour were ascribed to lower results of 6-minute walk test and more intensive complaints from patients. Subjective tolerance to 6-minute walk test decreased sharply in patients with chronic heart failure, high reactive anxiety and significant alexithymic radical. Due to this, it should be taken into account when differentiating heart failure functional class that tolerance to physical activity in patients with chronic heart failure is defined not only by the severity of underlying disease, but also by mental status disorders.
