Abstract

Smoking leads to multiple dysfunctions of oxygen transportation. There develops imbalance between autonomic and central heart rhythm regulation circuits, vagus reactivity increases. In response to oxygen transportation dysfunction smokers develop not really effective adaptive functional changes in cardiopulmonary system. For example, more frequent breathing does not result in hemoglobin oxygen saturation, and growth of oxygen delivery to tissues is not associated with increase in maximum oxygen consumption. We developed adaptive changes and cardiopulmonary dysfunction pattern and assessed clinical significance of these changes.
