Abstract

The aim of the study is to perform a comparative analysis of initial and postoperative structural-geometrical parameters of cardiac cavities in patients with mitral valve defects after radical correction with prosthesis implantation. The obtained data was interpreted according to the preoperative condition of cavity geometry and operative treatment of patients who successfully underwent mitral valve replacement. We analyzed initial and postoperative indices of 153 patients with mitral valve defects. All patients underwent surgical correction of the defect using mechanical prostheses in 131 cases (85.6%) and biological in 22 cases (14.4%). In early postoperative period all patients showed significant decrease of atria, left ventricle cavity and inlet part of right ventricle (p<0.01). Preoperative and postoperative geometric parameters of ventricles were assessed with conventional indices (end-systolic dimension, end-diastolic dimension, end-systolic volume, end-diastolic volume, stroke volume) and such rates as square modification fraction, obliquity index, eccentricity index, which significantly (p<0.05) allowed to observe and analyze rate and localization of remodeling processes in early postoperative period and 6 months after radical surgical repair of the defect.
