Morphological changes and the reasons of progression of deformation in the wall of the internal carotid artery

Abstract

Objective – to study the morphology of the wall of the internal carotid artery in patients with pathological tortuosity of the internal carotid artery.
Material and methods. The study examined surgical material internal carotid artery 7 patients after resection of patho- logical tortuosity of the internal carotid artery.
Results. Two patients (28,5%) carotid artery had normal histological structure. In 3 (42,8%) cases were identified morphological changes characteristic of lipomathosis. The expressed morphological changes artery occurred in 2 (28,5%) cases.
Conclusion.We can assume that different morphological changes may be age-dependent patients, the characteristics of the course and at different stages of the disease, type of deformation. Dystrophic and sclerotic processes, apparently moreintense, the more unfavorable hemodynamic conditions and the more long-time exposure. Fixation of the surround- ing tissues due to the sclerotic process crumple zones artery and the impact of hemodynamic overload promotes the for- mation of inflection of the vessel. However, to confirm these assumptions, it is necessary to further study the data of the morphology in comparison with data of radiological methods.
