Abstract

Acute liver failure usually develops in multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and carries a high mortality. This review represents recent data of acute liver failure etiology and pathogenesis: endogenous intoxication syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, system inflammatory response, hepatorenal syndrome and hemostatic disorders were considered. There was also reviewed the conception of acute liver failure in sepsis and hypoxic hepatitis. Understanding of acute liver failure mechanisms allows to optimize the treatment approach.
