Abstract

Objective. Investigations of elastic properties technology echo-tracking of brachyocephalic arteries at healthy children of different ages were carried out.

Material and methods. 150 healthy children from 5 to 17 years were investigated. 34 healthy persons from 30 to 40 age have been investigated also. Standard B-mode and a technology echo-tracking were used. Elastic properties of brachyocephalic arteries were evaluated by the following parameters: cross-sectional complaince coefficient, index of arterial stiffness (SI), elastic modulus (Peterson) (EM), pulse wave velocity (PWV).

Results. Parameters: SI, EM, PWV increased with age. Intensive increasing of PWV was noticed at 10–12 years (puberty age). Stiffness indexes at adults of 30–40 years old were significantly higher and elasticity was lower in comparison with children (p <0.05).

Conclusions. The results show that echo-tracking is a highly sensitive method in assessment of the elastic properties of the carotid artery, which allows to identify age differences in vessel stiffness (elasticity). Trend to lower of elasticity with age at children and rising of stiffness was observed. These properties may be early detection markers of brain artery pathology.
