Abstract

One of the main problems of cardiovascular surgery is the choice of plastic material for restorative operations. In view of the anatomical features and vascular hemodynamic forces in venous system, the great vessel operations require the use of special plastic materials suitable for replacement of venous segments.
The need for reconstruction trunk veins operations arises from obstruction disease, extensive injuries, tumorous vascular invasions in case of oncology and vascular congenital anomalies – inferior vena cava dysplasia. The issue on the possibility of reconstruction and the choice of optimum graft in the iliocaval occlusive remains undertermined. This area is one of the most difficult in phlebology.
This article provides a brief overview of the various types of modern vascular prostheses. It analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of synthetic, autogenous, allogenic and xenogenic transplants and the possibility of their use in restorative trunk veins operations.
