Abstract

Objective. Comparison of two experimental models: elastase-induced aneurysmal expansion with local hemodynamically significant stenosis in rats, as well as the study of methods for their visualization.

Material and methods. White male rats of the Wistar breed were used as experimental animals for the development of the model. The animals were divided into three groups: in the control group, the aorta was examined unchanged, the first group (n = 10) – elastase-induced aneurysmal dilation of the abdominal aorta, the second group (n =10) – with hemodynamically significant stenosis in the infrarenal aorta.

Results. The ultrasonic duplex scanning showed that, in comparison with the control group, in the first group, local compaction and thickening of the aortic walls were visualized after 14 days, and aneurysmal expansion was confirmed after 28–30 days. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) was also visualized according to the data of intravital angiography of the entire aorta. When measuring the longitudinal-transverse dimensions of the aorta according to the data of casts and panaortography, it was revealed that in the presence of AAA, the diameter increases not only in the area of localization of expansion, but also along the aorta. The diameter of the entire aorta with local stenosis also increases when compared with the norm to the infrarenal department. Histological examination of the aortic wall throughout the aorta showed that the proximal part of the rat aorta in the presence of AAA is thinned, there is a thickening of the intima at the site of its expansion.

Conclusion. With local damage to the aorta, geometric remodeling of the entire aorta occurs, while it is more pronounced with elastase-induced aneurysmal expansion of the abdominal aorta than with local stenosis of the infrarenal aorta.
