Abstract

Aim: to evaluate accuracy of color Doppler in monitoring after HIFU in patients with prostate cancer. Materials and methods: 51 patients who underwent HIFU for prostate cancer were examined with the use of color Doppler 1,5; 3; 4,5; 6; 9; 12 mo post-procedurally and further yearly. Median follow up 15 (5 to 22) mo. Doppler criteria of success (cancer-free state) included avascular prostate excluding 5 to 10 mm zone in the apex. Results: 6 local recurrences were diagnosed and treated with repeated HIFU. No deaths occurred. Rate of recurrence did not depend on indications for primary HIFU (contraindications for radical prostatectomy; ineffective radio-, hormone therapy or surgical treatment; debulking). Conclusion: color Doppler is accurate and affordable method for detecting of local recurrence after HIFU for prostate cancer.
