Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate relationship between postoperative regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) changes and cognitive functions after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and brain SPECT with 99mТс-HMPAO, opportunity in evaluation of long-term cognitive dysfunction prognosis in coronary artery bypass patients. The study involved 22 patients underwent coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass. Perfusion brain SPECT and comprehensive neuropsychological testing were performed 1 day before, 10-14 days and 6 months after cardiac operation. In 96% of patients following coronary revascularization showed a cognitive deficit, which remained in 55% in 6 months after surgery. CABG followed by the decrease in regional cerebral blood flow relative to baseline in frontal and in parietal cortex of right hemisphere. Deterioration of delayed verbal memory after 6 months correlated well with decrease in cerebral perfusion in right and left temporal regions in early postoperative period.
