Abstract

Objective of the research – to estimate correlation between hyperlactatemia and changes in laboratory parameters reflecting multiple organ failure in the early stages of the postoperative period.
Material and methods. The authors retrospectively examined 103 patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopul- monary bypass.
Results. Various changes in blood biochemical parameters were observed in patients in early stages of the postoperative period. These changes depended on level of hyperlactatemia. High level of creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, amylase, urea and low level of protein and albumin were characteristics for the patients with high level of hyperlactatemia.
Conclusion. Our results indicate that biochemical signs of renal dysfunction, liver failure, damage of pancreatic cells and cardiomyocytes are most pronounced in patients with hyperlactatemia. Hyperlactatemia is one of the warning signs of possible postoperative complications forthcoming. Screening laboratory tests could be used to predict and/or evaluate the beginning of serious problems.
