Abstract

Objective. To examine the relationship of cellular and humoral immunoreactivity with the severity of the atherosclerotic coronary lesions in patients with stable angina.

Material and methods. We examined 67 patients with stable angina (mean age 60,1±10,1 years), which underwent a coronary angiography and immunological studies.

Results. We revealed a direct correlation between the level of circulating immune complexes and presence of hemodynamically significant coronary stenosis (R=0,31; p<0,05), as well as a number of them (r=0,27; p<0,05) and length stenosis (R=0,31; p<0,05). It was also a correlation between the level of circulating immune complexes and the degree of stenosis in coronary arteries (r=0,35–0,25; p<0,05). Levels of the myocardial antigen associated with number of coronary occlusions (r=0,49; p<0,05), number of hemodynamically significant stenosis (r=0,58; p<0,05) and degree of coronary stenosis (r=0,56–0,45; p<0,05). The number of coronary occlusions associated with the leukocyte migration-inhibitory index stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (r=0,40; p<0,05).

Conclusion. Cellular and humoral immunoreactivity plays an important pathogenic role in the progression of atherosclerotic lesions of the coronary arteries, which should be considered in the treatment of patients with stable angina.
