Abstract

Coronary heart disease is the most common cardiovascular pathology and in many economically developed countries occupies a leading place among all causes of morbidity and mortality. Coronary bypass surgery is the preferred method of revascularization in patients with multivessel lesion. One of the frequent complications after coronary bypass surgery is the dysfunction of the grafts. Currently, various strategies are being formed aimed at preventing graft dysfunction including improving surgical techniques, more active antiplatelet therapy, intensive modification of risk factors, in particular early lipid-lowering therapy in high doses and a number of developing treatment methods, such as gene transfer and the introduction of nitric oxide donors, which are aimed at preventing graft dysfunction at an early postoperative period.

This literature review examines some significant mechanisms of graft dysfunction development and prevention methods.
