Abstract

Objective. Еlectroencephalography(EEG) intensity rate results dynamics study in patients who survived coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during 1 month following the surgery depending on objectively estimated severity of coronary blood stream involvement according to SYNTAX score. Material and methods. EEG results were assessed in the 0-50 Hz range in 25 patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD), males, right-handers within 3-5 days before, on the 7-10th day and in a month after CABG. The patients were divided in two groups: with moderate involvement of coronary stream (≤ 22 SYNTAX score, N=9) and with severe involvement (≥ 23 SYNTAX score, N=16). Results. In all the patients on the 7–10th day following CABG there was revealed low-frequency rhythms intensity increase as compared to preoperative results which may indicate cerebral ischemic lesion under CPB. Within 1 month following CABG intensity rates of θ1-rhythm in the patients with ≤ 22 SYNTAX score got back to the point registered before CABG whereas in the patients with ≥ 23 SYNTAX score further increase of these rates was noted. Conclusion. ≥ 23 SYNTAX score rates were associated with EEG-signs of perioperative ischemic cerebral lesions associated with CPB surgery. This fact requires more careful preoperative assessment and preparation of this category of IHD patients as well as more efficient perioperative cerebral defense.
